Desolation Series

“Desolation Series” was a short but relatively fun project I did back in 2013 when I felt like I needed to express my feelings through art. The paintings are series of material influenced and color defined artwork that I did without thinking much. It is influenced in the surrealist art style called “Pure Psychic Automatism” coined by André Breton. Automatic art was simply a style in which the artist strongly relies on chance and letting your hand move through the canvas. It is a form of expression of the subconsciousness through visual exposition and creative gestures.

twisted thought generator by: chris takakura

“Twisted Thought Generator” was an artwork I did way back in the days (1999 to be exact) for dreaminfinity.com. At the time, there was a growing trend ironically called “the trend style”, which was a composition of randomly modeled 3D objects with a futuristic tone. Being only experienced in Photoshop for about 3 years at the time, I followed that trend and experimented with 3D modeling software such as 3D Studio Max and Bryce 3D.

It also covers a good amount on portfolio preparation and how to organize your portfolio so it is at the most optimal state. Please note that reading this article doesn’t necessarily guarantee you that you get accepted, but just some points from my personal experience.

The Genesis Project

I have slowly been working on what I call “The Genesis Project”, which is my attempt to re-create some of my old personal projects I have done and see what I can do to change and hopefully improve the artwork, while maintaining integrity of the original artwork. The main guideline behind the project is for me to use 75% of the existing assets from the previous project while adding 25% of something new, which can be forms of elements, new photography and type. The first one so far, titled “Alice: Revival” is a new work based on my previous work titled “Alice”, which was done in 2003.
